Monaural stethoscopes, 19th century

Various monaural wood stethoscopes later part of the 19th century. Note the tall pauper's stethoscope in the middle that was used to keep the distance between the doctor and the patient during auscultation.

Typical European stethoscope made of wood with a screw-on ivory ear plate, c. 1875. This stethoscope was brought from Germany in the late 19th century by a pathologist from Hamburg, who immigrated and practiced in American Hospitals.

Dutch Stethoscope, so called because of the tulip shaped bell, c. 1890. 

Traube stethoscope shown its original case with percussion hammer and pleximeter by H. Hauptner, Berlin, c. 1876. The Traube stethoscope, metal percussion hammer and ivory pleximeter are also shown out of the case..
