Flexible Tube Binaural Stethoscopes

Binaural stethoscopes with flexible rubber tubes to connect the ear pieces to the chest piece, c. 1880. The example on the right is Chinese and has ivory ear pieces and a reversible ivory chest piece. Each end of the reversible chest piece was a different size and shape, presumably to examine different parts of the body. The example on the left ivory example is Japanese. The one on the top has a gutta percha chest piece.
