White Stethoscope

Prior to becoming a doctor, Harvey A. White was a soldier in the civil war. He enrolled on December 17, 1861, as an artificer in the newly formed Battery E of the First Illinois Regiment of Light Artillery commanded by Captain A.C. Waterhouse in the 5th Division under General William T. Sherman as part of the Army of the Tennessee commanded by General Ulysses S. Grant. Battery E played a key part in one of the bloodiest battles of the civil war at Shiloh, Tennessee.
